Human Piggy Bank?

This past Monday on June 21st Christian and I made one of many trips to the ER! Lately, he has had this huge fetish for hoarding money around the house! If you leave it on the counter, if it is in your pocket or even in your purse it is not off limits! Christian loves to put money in his piggy bank and will collect it any way he can find it!

The past week or so I have gotten on to him because he has been putting the money in his mouth! First of all this is a huge chocking hazard! Second, it is terrible behavior when you have a younger sister who copies everything you do! Third, it is just plain disgusting!

The other day we had been at my parents house practicing our swimming skills. They happen to have a small slot machine that sits on the bar downstairs. Christian of course loves this because there is real money coming out of it and you never have to put money in (or he does not anyway)! :) I think he scored about a dollar and a half that day? I owe you mom and dad! :)

So long story short he had the money in his pocket all afternoon and that is where it stayed...until bath time!
He had put the money on the side of the tub for safe keeping during his bath? I was bathing them in our tub downstairs, which I usually stand in when I bathe them because it is just too wide to bend over. I was washing Henley when all of the sudden Chrisitan started choking! Immediately I freaked out and started asking him if he swallowed the quarter?  I kept screaming we are going to have to go to the hospital, which followed with him flipping out! Christian detests doctors of any kind anywhere! He continued to tell me he did not swallow the quarter...as he kept rubbing his throat! I finally reasoned with him and got him to calm down. I told him that I was not upset with him, but I needed to know if he had swallowed the quarter. If he had then we needed to look for it in his poop. Once we found it than we had to put the money in his piggy bank! This seemed to make sense to him so he told me that he indeed swallowed the quarter? Well, I could not trust that he was telling the truth and this could be potentially very dangerous! I called the doctor and they told me that I had to take him to the ER for x-rays! They needed to see if he had swallowed the quarter and if he had where it was located in his body! So at 8:00pm we headed to the Children’s Hospital downtown! If you know anything about the Children’s Hospital ER downtown you would feel sorry for me! The hospital itself is great, but the ER is DISGUSTING! This is going to sound terrible, but it is truthful! There is nothing but a bunch of illegals and misfits on welfare in that ER! There is another ER closer to our home, but they do not see children with potential foreign objects lodged in their bodies! Ugh!!!

We got to the ER and it was jam packed! I thought for sure we would be there until midnight! However, they must put children with potentially lodged objects in their throats of utmost importance! We were back within 30 minutes! We saw the doctor and told the story about five hundred times to them. Christian would just laugh and tell them he swallowed money and he had it in his belly! He also told us often that his throat was hurting! I just knew that he had swallowed the quarter! The doctor tole me that if he had swallowed the quarter that she hoped it was in his belly. If the quarter was lodged anywhere else than he was being admitted and having surgery in the morning to dislodge it! Great! Brian was out of town and so were my parents! This would be nothing but, the perfect timing to have surgery! He went back for x-rays and had a blast! He got stickers and played games with the x-ray tech! He came out of the room smiling ear to ear! I think he was actually having fun! Honestly, he has been starving for attention lately over his sister and probably enjoyed this alone time with mom! The x-rays came back very quickly and Thank God there was NO quarter in his body anywhere! I was so relieved there would be no surgery on our little boy this time at the ER. Better safe than sorry and I could not have imagined if   something could of happened and I ignored it!

I am sure some of you are wondering if he learned his lesson? Well, it has been almost a week since this happened and I have not seen him pick up one piece of money! I hope that it scared him just a little that he has figured it was not worth it! Well..... I might of told him a frightening story or two to make sure he understood the consequences of his actions were he to have actually swallowed some money!

No thanks!

Brian and I will be the first to admit that we made a mistake with teaching Christian how to swim! If you have followed are blog for awhile, then you have seen the infamous Christian floating on his back! When he was around 18 months we enrolled him in an Infant Swim Resource class. It was supposed to be wonderful and life saving for the child! They teach them how to roll over and float on their back’s if ever they were to ever fall in a pool. It is a wonderful program but, unfortunately it scared the life out of Christian and being in the water! Last summer we quickly realized how petrified he was to be in the water without one of his parents. When we were in the water he would have a death grip on us! Bless his heart, he thought we were just going to let him go in the water! Unfortunately, that is how they taught him his survival skills...that would not do him any good at this day and time!

Last year we did not do any kind of swimming lessons because we felt it was just too soon again and he had no interest. We wanted to lay off the torment for another year and see what happened. Christian is definitely more comfortable in the water, but not to far from the steps will he move! :) That is alright we are working towards it regularly and he has had his first set of two week lessons this summer already.

The week before we went to the beach, Christian went to his first swimming lesson. They were daily for an hour for one full week. We did not do two weeks in a row because the teacher told me it would be good to work with him on our vacations that fell in between. The first day Christian did wonderful! When I went to pick him up he was going completely under water! This was a huge accomplishment because he does not enjoy going under water like most children! I was so proud of him!

One step forward and then another step back! That afternoon we all went to the pool and I was telling Brian about how he went under the water. Brian decided to try it and well lets just say, Christian no longer likes going under the water! The swim instructor did not take them deep when they went under and Brian basically sat Christian on the bottom of the pool! Christian freaked out and from there on out was very hesitant in swim practice! He kept telling me that he did not want to go and why does he have to learn how to swim? Wow, we really have done some damage with him and the pool!

The week went on and he continued his lessons, but he did not progress like the other students. I think he is scared and quite frankly uninterested! Oh well, we will continue our practicing and he has another week of lessons coming up. I hope that he picks it up because it would be nice not to have to worry so much when he is around the water! Henley is our daredevil and loves the water! She loves to go under and I am working with her on kicking. She is the one that keeps me on my toes around the pools! At least I will have one swimming by the end of the summer!

Here is some video of swim practice. She teaches them to swim on their back and front! You all will probably notice how he does not like to go under the water! Practice makes perfect and we will continue to work! Right now his floaties are his best friend! He knows his boundaries, which makes me feel   better for his lack of love for swimming! We will keep you posted!

I want to be just like my brother!

About a month ago Henley started becoming very interested in the potty! She has gone as far as every time she uses the bathroom in her diaper she says, “ I pee pee, I pee pee” and grabs her crotch! It cracks me up because she WAS only around 19 months! I thought you have to be kidding...this child is not ready for potty training or is she? I have always heard girls learned much sooner than boys, but this is ridiculous! Anyway, I ignored her for awhile and just thought she was imitating her brother and things he says on a regular basis! Henley has a crazy vocabulary and repeats almost everything he says and then some! I guess that is the upside to having an older sibling?

One afternoon a few weeks back Christian went the bathroom and when he pees anybody can see him because he will do that just about anywhere outside...he is not shy. However, when he poops the house is locked down. He goes into the bathroom and all doors are shut and nobody, I mean nobody is allowed to enter except Henley! :) I guess they have conversations and play in there when he is on the potty and I hear them, but not really sure what they are doing? All I know is that both kids wash hands when they come out! Henley will have her hands all over the toilet if given the chance!

The same day Christian had to pee and went running to the bathroom because he will hold it too long! There goes Henley holding herself running to the bathroom, “I pee pee I pee pee”! Before Christian even gets to the toilet there she is standing in front of the toilet on her tip toes trying to pee in it like a BOY! Henley had her front area pressed against the toilet as if she had a penis to pee standing up! I have never laughed so hard in my life! I told her sorry honey, but you will never be able to pee that way! Obviously, she does not understand the anatomy difference? Now, it will be very interesting to watch how many times she pees on herself during the potty training process because she wants to be like her big brother! I need to get her around her cousin Bennett so she can see how little girls do it! I know she sees me, but I am mommy not a little friend or someone her size. I put her on a few times, but she just about falls in to the toilet! Her is a picture!

So the week before we left for the beach I bought her a pink princess training potty! I do not think she is ready, but she definitely has an interest in it! She is becoming more aware when she pees and loves to sit on the potty when her brother is using the big one! Big brother has also gotten in on the game! He asks her “you want to go potty like a big girl?" She will sit on the potty and he will say," there you go you can do it!" I laugh at them because they are so cute! He even brought her toys one time  while we waited to see if she did anything! Her are some pictures of her and the new throne she will learn from eventually! However, for now it is unused!

Best Friends!

Elijah and Chrisitan have been best friends since the day they were born it seems!  Susan is my dear friend and the boys are exactly one month apart! The due dates for the both of then were within days, but Elijah came a little early. Since the day they were born they have been around each other! We always joke that all are kids probably think they are related because they spend so much time together!

It has not been until the past few months that their friendship has become borderline obsessive! The two could spend every moment together! When they wake up in the morning the first thing I hear is can I go play with Elijah? Elijah is my best friend! The same goes for Elijah about Christian. When they are together they tell us they are best friends! They are constantly asking to spend the night with each other or go to the other’s house. Elijah will tell me I am coming to spend the night for two nights and have a complete meltdown when he is told no! When they are together it is great because they entertain each other sooo well I sometimes do not even know they are there! They have withdrawals from each other too! When they have not seen one another they always hug the minute they get together! There friendship is the sweetest thing ever and I only hope that they continue to stay best friends ! It is such a treasure to find great friendship that last a lifetime! We are all going to the beach together this week and I can only imagine the
fun these kids are going to have together!

These pictures are from the other night when Elijah spent the night. They had to make a pallet on the floor and sleep next to each other. Henley is in love with Elijah, so we had to drag her out of their bed! I do not think she was happy about it! I think there might be a love triangle with the Copeland boys and Henley. She loves Elijah and their youngest Porter loves her! She screams for Elijah all the time and ask "where is Elijah?”

I have to write this in the blog because it is so funny and I want the kids to know the cute things they did as children. The boys are so close they do everything together! Literally, Christian went to  go pee in the bathroom and Elijah ran in and had to pee as well! Before I knew it both pants were down and they were on either side of the toilet! Both were just laughing and calling me to come see how they were peeing together and the streams were crossing! :) I laughed so hard at them because it is so innocent... they have no idea! Anyway, they are in a phase were they are arguing a lot and hitting, so we hope that we do not punish them to much at the beach and everybody gets along! Here are the pictures of them snuggling together as they slept! So Cute!

Summertime Fun!

The last water slide we had developed a huge hole. so this year we bought a new one! I have been waiting to get it out because they are a bit annoying to put up when you are finished using them. It has been so stinking hot down here in Alabama that we decided to start our water slide fun sooner rather than later!

The kids of course love it! Henley our little dare devil loved the slide until the water gets to full! Once the water level is higher it scares her because she can go under the water on the slide! Christian loves it this year more than ever! It is hours of entertainment for them and their friends and a break from the pool all the time! Here are some pictures!
